Hi, I am Burcu. It’s pronounced Bour-joo. It is a common female name in Turkey, which was almost too popular among parents in 70s and it means fragrance.
I was born in Izmir, the nicest Aegean town ever, in my humble opinion. I lived in Turkey for 40 years and moved to London 3 years ago.
I have been in financial services, banking, consultancy, and project management sectors for 20 years. I have managed multi-cultural and multi-lingual teams from different countries for +150 projects. I have worked as a consultant and a project manager in the world’s largest consultancy firms in Turkey and the UK.
While working as a project manager, I realized that the most amazing part of my job was communicating with people. On each project, I seek to develop an environment where each of my team members is encouraged to raise any issues, insights or innovations they may have, thereby producing a cohesive and effective team, and resulting in well managed and successfully executed projects. My coaching and mentoring experience therefore started in the most natural and inevitable course of events. People started approaching me and asking me about my career path, how was I able to combine working on large projects with being a mum of two young boys, and how I was able to adapt to a different working culture in my 40s after I had moved to UK. They asked me about my experience, and I gave them advice, based on what I had learned throughout my own career, while tailoring the solutions to their specific needs and over the past two years, I have discovered more on how to be a mentor and coach, studying with the best training organisations and I became a Professional Personal Development Coach, graduate of The Coaching Academy accredited by the ICF (International Coaching Federation). I also worked with the Centre Mentoring Organization-London to boost my mentoring skills. I graduated for an MSc at the University of Essex in Cognitive Psychology. Learning is a life-long passion of mine; I intend to continue learning for the rest of my life.
During last year, I have coached and mentored 10+ clients for a total of 200+ hours. Majority of my clients have been professionals, entrepreneurs, academics and individual contributors. Working with these individuals has prompted me to build Millennia.
I have also given Project Management and Agile Training to over 500 people in the last 5 years.
